Company Background

Discovery Networks Europe is a European subsidiary of Discovery Communications Inc a real-world media and entertainment company, which provides a number of channels across Europe. Together these channels attract 86 million subscribers cumulatively, across the digital satellite, digital cable and top-up TV platforms. One in three adults in the UK with multi-channel pay television watch Discovery’s channels each week.

Requirements

Discovery appointed Today Translations to localise sections of their award-winning documentary ‘My Shocking Story; Half Man Half Tree’ about a rare skin condition from Indonesian to English and Romanian to English. The documentary described surgical procedures undertaken in Indonesia and Romania which required English translation for subtitling purposes. One of the interventions was narrated in Sundanese dialect, spoken by only 15% of the Indonesian population.

Solution

Today Translations provided Discovery Networks Europe a team of translators with deep knowledge of medical terminology and over 10 years experience in performing technically-accurate translations. This was then complemented by live presence of a qualified interpreter which helped the client to ensure that the subtitles were inserted in the right locations.
