Company Background

The National Archives is the UK government's official archive, containing 900 years of history with records ranging from parchment and paper scrolls through to digital files and archived websites. The National Archives is at the heart of information policy, setting standards and supporting innovation in information and records management across the UK, providing advice on opening up and encouraging the re-use of public sector information.

Requirements

The National Archives appointed Today Translations to provide all linguistic services for their flagship event European Archives: Forming Partnerships in the Digital Age (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/interactivity/europe/default.htm ) held in London and attended by European top-level delegates. Services included simultaneous interpreting, conference equipment, translation of conference papers (presentations, biographies, standards, best practices, etc.) and production of the meeting transcript in three languages (English, French and German).

Solution

Today Translations supplied simultaneous interpreters with more than 20 years experience in the field and an active knowledge of history and diplomatic affairs. Rather than a relay solution, our company provided linguists who were able to interpret from and to the three different languages (English and French, English and German, French and German). Both interpreters and delegates were supplied with ISO compliant conference equipment.

In addition, the translations were delivered in different formats (MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel) making use of the latest Translation Memory solutions to ensure consistent terminology and cost effectiveness to the customer.

Finally, our company appointed a highly-qualified journalist who was able to identify the key areas of the discussion and present the information in a clear and concise manner. The conference transcript was then translated into German and French for the international delegates.
