Selection criteria for Linguists

To protect and promote the interests of the client and the company, Today Translations employ linguists who are formally trained and have a minimum of five years active experience that can be validated. If a candidate has qualifications in other subject areas but has no formal linguist training, we ask for seven years' translation experience.

As part of our registration process, linguists are required to supply full details of their qualifications, proof of membership of professional bodies, two references, their curriculum vitae and a copy of their passport.

All candidates are interviewed and complete an application form, which includes a signed declaration as to the accuracy of the information provided. They also complete a test translation. Finally, linguists supply a 'police subject access letter' and if they are successful they are required to sign a contract and then their details are entered onto our database.

Today Translations is recruiting highly qualified and experienced linguists for the following positions:

1 – Marketing / Business Translator

Today Translations is looking for qualified and experienced linguists who can translate and localise Marketing and Business Literature.

Essential:

• 5 years' translation experience;
• Formal qualifications or substantial professional experience (ideally both) in one of the following areas: Marketing, Sales, Journalism and Advertising.

Desirable:

• Accreditation / membership of a professional translation body;
• Translation degree 

The process:

For the initial assignments, translators will be remunerated at our lower rate. Should the translated material meet the highest quality standards, translators will then join our elite group of preferred suppliers and be remunerated at our top rate.

2 – Technical Translator

Today Translations is looking for qualified and experienced linguists who can translate technical, legal and scientific documents. 

Essential:

• 5 years' translation experience;
• Formal qualification and substantial professional experience in one of the following areas: Law, Medicine, Science, Engineering, Finance, Software;
• Accreditation / membership of a professional translation body.

Desirable:

• Translation degree 

The process:

For the initial assignments, translators will be remunerated at our lower rate. Should the translated material meet the highest quality standards, translators will then join our elite group of preferred suppliers and be remunerated at our top rate.

3 – Consecutive Interpreter

Today Translations is looking for experienced linguists who can perform consecutive interpreting in legal and medical settings.

Essential:

• 5 years' interpreting experience;
• Solid knowledge of the legal and medical sectors.

Desirable:

• Accreditation / membership of a professional interpreting body;
• Interpreting degree. 

The process:

For the initial assignments, interpreters will be remunerated at our lower rate. Should the interpreting performance meet the highest quality standards, interpreters will then join our elite group of preferred suppliers and be remunerated at our top rate.

4 – Simultaneous Interpreter

Today Translations is looking for experienced linguists who can perform simultaneous interpreting in large conferences and seminars.

Essential:

• 5 years' interpreting experience;
• Solid knowledge of one or more of the following sectors: Automotive, Politics, Finance, IT / Software, Legal, Medical, Science.

Desirable:

• Accreditation / membership of a professional interpreting body;
• Interpreting degree.
