Text Translation
Did you know a Swiss restaurant once wrote in its menu "Our wines leave you nothing to hope for"? And what about the "Ladies are requested not to have children in the bar" which you could find in a Norwegian hotel lounge? The reason for laughing is quite simple: poor translation.
At Today Translations, we understand the importance of translation in unifying people and projecting business worldwide, so we rely on professionals that not only master one or more foreign languages but also possess a strong technical, scientific or commercial background.
Unlike other companies, localisation is an integral part of our translations. This means that when our professionals translate, they adapt the literature of your products or services to the culture and desired 'look-and-feel' of your target country or region. So, by choosing us, you will make sure that such details like time zones, money, national holidays, local colour sensitivities, expectations and needs of your target market won't be overlooked.
Because we understand that a poor-quality translation may shed your company into poor-light forever, we include proof-reading as part of our translation services. This means your documents will be checked by at least two professionals who will make sure that your translation is bulletproof. Continuous performance assessment ensures that our translators get up-to-date feedback from our customers.

Translation is an Art
The word "translation" has its root on the Latin "trahere" which means both "to translate" and "to betray". A poor translation can, at best, make you laugh or, at worst, ruin your business' image. But a good masterpiece can fool readers into thinking that they are before an original document.
The hardest part of the translation process is to give account of certain nuances existing uniquely amongst a group of writers, between different genres and within a certain historical period.

WRITER'S STYLE
For example, when dealing with literary pieces, our translators are often encouraged to read extensively about a certain author so they can formulate in their mind the style of a specific author.
Hemingway's economical writing style, for instance, often seems simple and almost childlike, but his method is calculated and used to complex effect. In his writing, Hemingway provided detached descriptions of action, using simple nouns and verbs to capture scenes precisely. He avoided describing his characters' emotions and thoughts directly.
Instead, in providing the reader with the raw material of an experience and eliminating his point of view, Hemingway made the reading of a text as close to the actual experience as possible. Without such knowledge, the translation of the writer's work would be flawed because the reader would sense the author's lack of expertise.
Biographies and autobiographies differ substantially from history writing, a business letter strips off those redundancies found in personal letters, while the jargon and objectivity of a legal or scientific text are rarely found in poetry. In the translation of any genre, our translators accommodate not only to the genre of the source text but also to the target language style.
Classicism, for example, is an important movement in the English literature history. It refers to the admiration and imitation of Greek and Roman literature, art and architecture. In translating this style, our translators are equipped with wide knowledge about Greek and Roman literature, art and other cultural aspects so as to preserve the same style in the target language.
At Today Translations, we believe that a good translation is not a mere word-for-word repetition in another language. We rely on professionals able to convey the context and nuances of your documents, while making your multinational customers believe the documents were written in their native countries or regions.
