Job Description

Today Translations is currently seeking an experienced business development manager with a strong technical and/or business and trade background to join our award-winning team to further the levels of growth.

The role includes communicating with high-profile clients regarding their translation, interpreting and language consultancy requirements. Many of the projects will often be complex and high-value. An analytical mind-set and consultative approach to business development are therefore a must. 

1. Primary objectives and responsibilities of the role are to:

1.1 Generate revenue for the Company;

1.2 Identify profit generating opportunities and pitch tailored service packages to existing and new customers;

1.3 Cross-sell and maintain a productive relationship with existing customers, ensuring high levels of repeat business;

1.4 Build and proactively manage sales pipeline in line with the company’s objectives and agreed personal KPIs;  

2. Day-to-day responsibilities are to:

2.1 Researching organisations and individuals with aim to (i) identify new leads and (ii) upselling/cross-selling opportunities within existing customer base;

2.2 Identify and engage with decision makers with purchasing power;

2.3 Assess the needs of customers, scope and present technical solutions;

2.4 Maintain contact with potential and existing customers via email or phone to establish rapport and set up meetings;

2.5 Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events. 

3. Typical duties:

3.1 Prepare presentations, quotes, bids, tenders and proposals;

3.2 Inform customers about newly developed services or technical solutions;

3.3 Negotiate by phone, email, and in person;

3.4 Develop goals, sales strategies and prepare reports;

3.5 Keep up-to-date and comprehensive activity and planning records;

3.6 Evaluate sales pipeline and keep it current;

3.7 Inform marketing team about sales trends and contribute ideas how to generate more leads;

3.8 Consult with operations team and if necessary, take lead in building solutions to meet clients’ needs;

3.9 Train personnel and help team members develop their skills;

3.10 Meet set KPIs, targets and manage customers’ expectations; 

4. Required attributes:

4.1 Excels in consultative sales, cross-selling and upselling; commercially aware (e.g. determines competitive client rates while maximising company profit margins) and capable of devising and presenting value propositions (can communicate technical and complex information in simple terms);

4.2 Understands the service sector and selling services business to business;

4.3 A curious and charismatic leader but not a loose cannon or abrasive;

4.4 Comfortable in experimenting with technical challenges (e.g. software related, resource intensive) and has good understanding of project planning;

4.5 Capable of fitting into the TT team and the culture;

4.6 Adaptable, responsible and open to work in a transparent environment;

4.7 Result driven, not a clock-watcher and prepared to lead by example;

4.8 Respected by clients, team members, management - credible;

4.9 Fast decision maker with mathematical mind;
