City of London Police

The City of London Police has responsibility for protecting the United Kingdom’s financial, residential and historic cultural centre known as the Square Mile. This highly specialised police force leads the world in the development and use of innovative technology and partnerships to prevent crime and is the national lead force for the investigation of economic crime. The City Police is home to the Economic Crime Academy, Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud reporting centre, the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) and the Overseas Anti-Corruption Unit (OACU).

SCOPE
In June 2014, the City of London Police staged the first European Union Cross-Border Task Force conference on bribery and corruption in London. Delegates at the event were from nations across Europe and it was imperative that information, much of it technical and sensitive, was communicated accurately and clearly in the languages that everyone could understand. The police selected Today Translations as their language partner for the three day event, commissioning the firm to provide project management; translation booths and equipment; simultaneous interpreters; document translations; and audio and video recording of presentations.

EXECUTION
Several weeks prior to the conference, Today Translations appointed a project manager who acted as the dedicated single point of contact for the police and arranged a series of preliminary meetings to fully understand the requirement as it evolved and to ensure the delivery plan met the exacting requirements. Linguists, along with an engineer, AV technician and translation security specialist were identified and placed on standby and their details supplied to the police. The venue was visited to assess access and building layout before booths and equipment were ordered.

Today Translations specialises in multilingual communication to support compliance and risk management and created a multilingual anti-bribery and corruption policy that was free to download by the police and delegates. Click for your version in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Polish, and Russian.

RESULT
All personnel and equipment was on site punctually according to plan throughout the conference and when one guest speaker unexpectedly made a request to speak through an interpreter, Today Translations responded immediately, making necessary arrangements for a seamless transition. After the event, AV recordings were edited and translated and supplied to the police in a secure digital format.
