Medical translation services for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry

Medical translations save lives. That’s why it’s so important to get it right. Translation in the medical sector requires thorough, intimate knowledge of the subject matter, not just because of the stakes, but also because of the wide variety of material in the discipline. An interview with a patient will be completely different to instructions for a surgeon.

Because we understand the importance of medical translations, your dedicated account manager will only work with chartered healthcare professionals who are native speakers of the language in question, and who have years’ experience in this specialist translation sector. Whether you require translation of written text, audio and video, or interpreting in person, we can provide quality like no-one else.

    Secure, traceable, and auditable

We understand the sensitive nature of many documents in the healthcare industry, that’s why we were the first specialist language services provider to achieve ISO27001, the internationally recognised standard for information security.

Today Translations put in place 131 controls to secure data, as well as manage confidentiality and security. These controls are applied throughout our global operation to provide our clients with the most secure service possible. Furthermore, we have assembled a network of security advisors to anticipate and mitigate any potential problems.

In addition we are ISO9001 certified by the British Standards Institution and underpinned by state-of-the-art technology, ensuring that your project will be managed by robust, externally accredited processes, systems and people.

    Medical devices and manufacturing

The GMDN Agency is responsible for the Global Medical Device Nomenclature – a system of internationally agreed generic names used to identify medical devices. The system is vital for standardising medical treatment and training across the world.

GMDN approached Today Translations to translate several of their medical device databases and website. First we discussed and consultatively scoped the project with the client to ensure all technical and legal requirements would be met. We then deployed our team of accredited medical translators who were familiar with the complex medical terminology and language involved.

Today Translations ensured consistency and accuracy across thousands of entries and 20 languages by the creation and use of approved glossaries, term-bases and translation memory as well as the strict adherence to the style guides provided. As a result, GMDN received flawless translations that maintained the same technical terminology, feel and tone across all device entries and their website.

For medical devices sold within the European Union, manufacturers and suppliers are obligated to translate related documentation by European Commission directives.

“As part of the quality system or of the documents defining the manufacturing process, the manufacturer should have procedures for ensuring accurate translation of e.g. labelling, instructions for use and product claims in marketing material.

These are especially important for user instructions where the safety and claimed performance of the device may be compromised through inadequate translation.”

Transcription is common in the medical profession, from Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) in pharmaceutical trials, to focus groups, to hospital-level solutions for dictated patient notes. With Today Translations, however, you aren’t limited to just your working languages.

    A translations company that understands

When Dr. Seonaid Anderson, one of the Britain’s leading researchers into Tourette Syndrome, contacted Today Translations with a project, we were eager to help. Dr. Anderson works with a charity called Tourettes Action, who were looking to translate their ID cards for people with the syndrome. The cards help others understand the condition, but were previously only available in English.

As well as translating the cards into multiple languages, our experienced medical translators also helped advise Tourettes Action on how the condition is understood and discussed in their respective cultures, ensuring that none of the concise, but important message was lost in translation.

Today Translations accounts team always offers a consultative approach to every translation project, no matter how big or small. We’ll advise you on any nuances, technicalities or even the general target audience, so you can be sure that your translation is perfectly suited to your requirements.

I just wanted to write you a quick note of praise for the 2 linguists I had at my meeting in St. Petersburg this week. Thanks again for your hard work.

The project was complex and required specialist knowledge. The team at Today Translations managed to process it to a high standard, and delivered at a very reasonable price.
